Nursing assistant commits suicide in Madurai

MADURAI: A 32-year-old nursing assistant working in Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai, committed suicide by hanging in her parents’ home here on Sunday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Karthiga of Pechiamman Padithurai.
Karthiga was accused of demanding Rs 1,000 as bribe from the relative of a patient while she was working in the obstetrics and gynaecology department of the hospital 12 days ago.She was later transferred to the super specialty block in the hospital. She took the extreme step while an inquiry by hospital authorities was pending against her.
The woman, who got married around nine years ago, later parted ways with her husband and was residing in her parents’ home with her eight-year-old son.
The Thilagar Thidal police registered a case and began investigations to find out the reason for her suicide.
