MADURAI: The Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry has urged the state government to give an exception to complete lockdown on August 2, as this date falls on Sunday and it is one of the auspicious days which people and trade organisations celebrate.
In a press statement, president of the chamber, N Jegatheesan and senior president S Rethinavelu said that the chief minister should immediately announce that all Sundays in August, except August 2, would be complete lockdown days.

Aadiperukku, which falls on August 2, is the only important auspicious day for manufacturing units across the state, which remained closed due to the lockdown. The units had proposed to restart on this day with special poojas and rituals.
The commerce body has also urged the chief minister to do away with e-passes for travel within the state. People would not travel to high risk areas where there is a high case load and they are well aware of the standard operating procedures and would follow them, the press release read.
