MANGALURU: Former IPS officer K Annamalai on Sunday reminded GenNext that the dream of former President A P J Abdul Kalam that India should become a superpower by 2020 is still a distant dream. Best way to realize his dream is through involving oneself in process of nation building and living a life of duty towards ourselves and the nation. Nation has given everything to us, but we ask honestly ourselves what we have given to nation, he queried.
Unfurling the national tricolour at the Republic Day Celebration at Alva’s education institution at Moodbidri, Annamalai said Republic Day is the best time which reminds citizens to bind themselves to their duties.
Whatever may be circumstances, nation should come first and then religion, place and name. Students should take pledge to let this nation prosper, nothing come before this from achieving all greater heights and what we dreamt off, he said.
Students decked up in colors of national tricolour lined up at the venue with miniature flags in hand. The special attraction of the festivity was presence of 150 ex-servicemen who had gathered to witness the proceedings. March past by more than 2400 NCC cadets from Udupi, Dakshina Kannada and Madikeri districts, 400 Scouts, Guides, Rovers and Rangers, 1200 NSS volunteers marked the beginning of the celebration held with fervour.
AT NEW MANGALORE PORT
Akkaraju Venkata Ramana, chairman, New Mangalore Port Trust urged the port fraternity to rekindle the values instilled in society by the founding fathers of the nation. He dwelt on the importance of integrity, honesty, morality and the need to remain law abiding citizens and thus contribute in every manner to the growth of the nation. Port gave scholarships and life jackets to fishermen community of families displaced due to the port project.
AT CORPORATION BANK
P V Bharathi, managing director & CEO of Corporation Bank who unfurled the national flag said the day is an occasion to remember sacrifice made by the freedom-fighters for the well-being of India and pay tributes to the armed forces who strive to protect our honour. The bankers are the backbone of the country’s economy and it is our duty and responsibility to play a vital role in contributing to the growth of the country, Bharathi noted.
