'Mini mini powder' remark by HD Kumaraswamy: JD(S) youth wing files complaint against social media trolls
Yuva Janata Dal district president, Akshith Suvarna, submitted a memorandum to police.
MANGALURU: The Yuva Janata Dal's Dakshina Kannada unit has filed a complaint against trolls who shared memes and jokes on former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy’s recent ‘mini mini powder’ remark.
At a press conference soon after Aditya Rao was arrested after he surrendered claiming he had planted explosive material near the Mangalore International Airport on January 20, Kumaraswamy had said it wasn’t a bomb, but firecrackers.
"It was not a bomb. It was a cracker which had a ‘mini mini’ (glittery or sparkling) powder," Kumaraswamy had told reporters on January 21. Later, his ‘mini mini powder’ remark triggered catchy one-liners, jokes and memes.
Following this, Yuva Janata Dal district president, Akshith Suvarna, submitted a memorandum to city police commissioner PS Harsha demanding action against miscreants who were sharing defamatory posts on social media.
"We have submitted a complaint seeking action against miscreants, who are sharing defamatory messages targeting former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy. We have also submitted proof against few people, who are behind spreading of defamatory messages. The city police officials have promised to take necessary action,” Suvarna told TOI.
Meanwhile, in another incident, a video clipping of youths, who were returning after Defence minister Rajnath Singh’s pro-CAA rally in Mangaluru, shouting slogans against Mangaluru MLA UT Khader is also doing rounds. Those youths were allegedly threatening the Congress leader of dire consequences if he speaks against the BJP government.
However, to a query in this regard, Khader told reporters on Tuesday, “I don’t bother about it. My well-wishers are putting pressure on me to file a complaint against those who threatened me. I am not bow down to such threats. Instead, I pity youths who are making such statements.”
