UDUPI: With less than 10 days to go before the nation celebrates its 74th Independence Day, the district administration here is gearing up to observe the national event under norms governed by the new normal. Accordingly, in a first, the administration has decided to live webcast the entire celebration with assistance from the National Informatics Centre. It will also be streamed live on Facebook and other online social media platforms.
Udupi deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha who chaired a preparatory meeting in this regard on Wednesday told TOI that present pandemic situation has created the necessity for increased use of ICT tools and webcasting the event is a step in this direction.
“Administration will share the link of the event with the public well in advance so that they can view it live from the comforts of their homes and not throng to the stadium in Ajjarakadu,” he said.
Health department has been tasked with thermally scanning every person attending the event and arranging for hand sanitisers at the Mahatma Gandhi stadium. Seating arrangements will be made in a manner such that social distancing norms are met in both the public and VIP gallery, DC said adding it is imperative for individuals attending the event to compulsorily wear masks. This will be ensured before one is allowed inside the venue, he said.
The administration will also honour the Covid warriors who have made significant contributions to the fight against the pandemic. Special invitation will also be extended to people who have successfully overcome the disease to attend the event, DC said. In keeping with the spirit of the day, all government buildings will be illuminated with lights, he said adding the marching units at the event including police, home guards will take all safety precautions.
