MUMBAI: A 28-year-old KEM doctor became a victim of a
honeytrap and was duped of Rs 2.25 lakh last week.
The victim got acquainted wth the accused, Manisha, on a
social networking site. Manisha told the victim that she was based in the US and would be sending him a gift. A few days later, the accused received a call from a person who posed as a
customs official.
He told the victim that he would have to pay Rs 36,000 for customs duty.
The next day he received another call stating that the package had foreign currency, so he had to pay Rs1.99 lakh to get a clearance certificate.
Without semlling a rat, the doctor paid the amounts.
