Mumbai: 12 rescued, 5 trapped after chawl collapses in Kandivali

Many people trapped after a ground-plus-two-storey chawl structure collapsed at Dipjyoti Chawl of Lalji Pada in Kandivali West early on Sunday.

MUMBAI: Many people trapped after a ground-plus-two-storey chawl structure collapsed at Dipjyoti Chawl of Lalji Pada in Kandivali West early on Sunday.
Fire brigade rescued 12 persons trapped on upper floors of the collapsed structure and removed two persons from debris.

Search operation for the missing is under way. Locals said that five more people are trapped under the debris
Fire officials said that one portion of the chawl partly collapsed.
People sleeping inside unable to come out. Firemen cut the window grill and safely rescued those who were trapped on the upper floor with the help of a ladder.
