Saptapadi chariot flagged off ahead of mass wedding

To create awareness on the state government’s ‘Saptapadi’ free mass marriage scheme as well as about holding such marriage atop Chamundi hills on April 26, a Saptapati chariot was flagged off from Trineshwara temple in the city on Thursday.

MYSURU: To create awareness on the state government’s ‘Saptapadi’ free mass marriage scheme as well as about holding such marriage atop Chamundi hills on April 26, a Saptapati chariot was flagged off from Trineshwara temple in the city on Thursday.
The chariot, flagged off by additional deputy commissioner B R Purnima, will travel to all villages in the district and handbills on the scheme will be distributed to the people.

It is mandatory for couples who intend to marry to submit their applications at the office of the Chamundeshwari temple with necessary records by March 27.
The temple will bear the expenses of these marriages. The temple will spend Rs 55,000 on each couple, including 8 grams of gold for the mangalasutra and Rs 10,000 under ‘Adarsha Vivaha scheme’ by revenue department, Rs 5,000 cash for the bride to purchase white shirt, panche, flowers and Rs 10,000 for bridegroom to buy sari, blouse and flowers.
The social welfare department will also provide Rs 50,000 for Scheduled Caste couple under the promotion of simple marriage scheme. The bride should complete the age of 21 and bridegroom 18 years to register for the marriage scheme.
