Banned paan masala, tobacco worth Rs27 lakh seized near Kalamb

In a joint operation, local crime branch of the police and food and drugs administration (FDA) have seized a consignment of banned paan masala and scented tobacco along with truck and arrested two persons from a village under Kalamb police station jurisdiction on Thursday night.

Yavatmal: In a joint operation, local crime branch of the police and food and drugs administration (FDA) have seized a consignment of banned paan masala and scented tobacco along with truck and arrested two persons from a village under Kalamb police station jurisdiction on Thursday night.
According to LCB chief PI Pradeep Siraskar, in-charge superintendent of police Noorul Hassan received a tip-off that a truck (HR 38-Z/ 6282) was transporting banned pan masala and scented tobacco products between Kalamb and Nagpur.
Hassan summoned FDA officials and set up a special squad of LCB under API Vinod Chavan to track down the truck. The team found the truck parked at a dhaba ahead of Kalamb.
The team inspected the vehicle and found 80 bags of Raj Niwas sugandhi paan masala and scented tobacco, banned by the state government. The value of the consignment has been estimated at Rs26.92 lakh and the truck Rs25 lakh.
Kalamb police have registered an FIR against occupants of the truck Padamsingh Tomar (42) and Mohansingh Adivasi (37), both residents of Bhavangad village in Madhya Pradesh, and arrested them. FDA officer Gopal Mahure and his team participated in the operation.
