Fadnavis status as ex-CM to not last long: RSS 2nd in command
Nagpur: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Sarkaryawah (general secretary) Bhaiyaji Joshi said Devendra Fadnavis’ status as former CM and leader of opposition may not stay for long. “Things don’t last forever so would Devendra Fadnavis’ status as the ex-chief minster or the leader of opposition would also be short-lived,” said Joshi.
Joshi is next to RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat.
He was speaking at a function to inaugurate a building of Sadhana Sahakari Bank in Jaripatka on Friday. Fadnavis’ father, late Gangadharrao Fadnavis was among the founders of this cooperative bank.
The statement holds importance in light of recent developments in Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government, especially chief minister Uddhav Thackrey's visit to New Delhi for talks with Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. There have been differences between the MVA constituents over the stance on national population register (NPR).
Later talking to news persons, Joshi said nothing is permanent in this world even the post of chief minister. However, it seems that the post of deputy chief minister is permanent for someone. The statement was an apparent indirect reference to NCP’s Ajit Pawar who had been the deputy chief minister in the Congress-NCP alliance and now also in the MVA.
On the sidelines of a function, Fadnavis came down on All India Majlis-e-Itehad-e-Muslimeen (AMIM) leader Waris Pathan on his recent statement. Pathan had said that 15 crore Muslims can prove stronger than the rest of the 100 crore in the country.
Fadnavis said, “Only because it is a Hindu majority nation that Pathan could get away with statements like this. Hindus are tolerant people. There are countries which are known as Islamic countries where none can dare to speak up. Rather the minorities don’t even have the right to express themselves.”
Fadnavis said Pathan should seek an apology from the nation for what he has said.
