Former CJI addresses law students in Nagpur
Nagpur: Former Chief Justice of India, Justice Dipak Misra, addressed students at Maharashtra National Law University, (Nagpur) on Friday about ‘Fundamental Duties in Contemporary Era’.
In his speech, justice Misra emphasized the importance of fundamental duties enshrined in the Constitution and said that it is obligatory for all the citizens to know the fundamental duties which are the command of the Constitution to be followed by all.

Justice Misra referred several duties enshrined in Article 51A of the Constitution such as Article 51A(h) which says that every citizen needs to develop scientific temper, humanism and the spirit of inquiry and reform. He further emphasized on Article 51A(e) which demands that citizens promote harmony and the spirit of common brotherhood amongst all the people of India transcending religious, linguistic, regional or sectional diversities; to renounce practices derogatory to the dignity of women. He lamented that peace and prosperity can be brought in the country by following this duty imposed by the constitution. He also suggested that students of law must inquire, investigate and not be guided by any superstition.
The visiting dignitaries also released Volume 2 of Contemporary Law and Policy Review, the flagship student journal of the university. Prof. (Dr) Vijender Kumar, Vice Chancellor welcomed and felicitated the guest in the presence of Justice V S Sirpurkar, former judge, Supreme Court of India, Justice R C Chavan, former judge, Bombay High Court, Suprama Misra along with students, faculty and administrative staff of MNLU, Nagpur.
