NAGPUR: Mayor Sandip Joshi has promised to rehabilitate 35 families in Giri Colony, Indira Nagar, whose houses were razed as they were built under high tension (HT) line.
Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) had demolished these hutments as per the order of Nagpur bench of the Bombay high court.
After their homes were razed, the residents met BJP corporator Vijay Chutele and asked him as to where should they go.
Chutele then contacted Joshi, who visited Giri Colony and talked to the affected residents. He promised to rehabilitate them.
The mayor said that NMC would provide them new houses within 15 days. In a press note, Chutele has thanked Joshi for his decision.
The HC had ordered demolition of all houses under HT line following a suo motu public interest litigation (PIL) on the basis of TOI reports. Two 11-year-old twins were electrocuted while playing under an HT line in Sugat Nagar in 2017. Many others too had got electric shock while working under the HT lines.
