Man stabs teenage daughter for talking with boys : Nagpur

NAGPUR: A 17-year-old Std XII student sustained injuries in stomach after her father stabbed her under the influence of alcohol at their residence at Kuhadkarpeth on Wednesday. It is learnt the father, identified as Dinesh Burade, was angry with his daughter Nisha for talking with boys in her school.
The academically good teenager, who has her board examination starting from February 18, is recuperating at Mayo Hospital.
It’s learnt Nisha’s mother Varsha had consumed poison around a year ago after she couldn’t cope with her husband’s torture. The mother of two works as a governess at Jaripatka to supplement the family’s income.
Dinesh, now in custody of Pachpaoli police, is a carpenter. He is a habitual drinker and the addiction worsened in the last few years.
Nisha told TOI that her father, as usual, was behaving in uncouth manner and using filthy language to target her. “When I said that as a father he shouldn’t abuse his daughter, he suddenly got violent. He stabbed me even before I could apprehend it,” she said.
Nisha’s mother Varsha said that her husband objected to their daughter speaking to anyone, especially boys. “He would doubt her whenever she spoke to her classmates and school friends,” she said.
The woman said that they had not approached police earlier believing that they do not take domestic issues seriously. “This time though we told cops that we do not want my husband at home. He was in possession of the knife for quite some time. We had even questioned him over this in the past,” she said.
The Pachpaoli police have registered a case of serious assault against Dinesh.
