Nagpur: Devendra, Surekha reign supreme in 200m sprints at Khasdar Krida Mahotsav athletics meet

NAGPUR: Devendra Udan and Surekha Motghare won 200m sprint events (above 25) in the Khasdar Krida Mahotsav athletics meet at the Nagpur University track, here on Monday.
Competing in the above 25 men's section, Devendra, a member of Jai Athletics Club, clocked 26.41 seconds to reign supreme. Jai Athletics Club's Mohd Amir and Suresh Varma finished second and third, respectively.
In the women's category, Surekha of Shakuntala Sports Foundation emerged champion.

Pranjali Sable of Green City Sports Academy and Durga Ahir of Jai Athletics Club secured second and third spots, respectively.
Devashri Lavhe, a member of Jivan Vikas Vidyalaya, triumphed in the 200m sprint for the senior women's with a timing of 27.24 seconds. She was followed by Yamini Thakre of Rawat Sports Academy and Sakshi Ambekar of Maharashtra Krida Mandal.
In the U-18 girls 200m, Nidhi Gawale of Jai Athleitcs Club won with a timing of 29.27 seconds.
Earlier, former Asian champion Rachita Mistri inaugurated the meet. Department of Sports and Physical Educaiton of Nagpur University Sharad Suryavanshi presided over the function.

GKM girls shock NBYS
Gurudeo Nagar Krida Mandal girls scripted one of the biggest upsets on the opening day of the basketball on Monday.
In the U-16 inter-club basketball meet which began at the Shivaji Nagar Gymkhana courts, GKM girls surprised Nutan Bharat Yuwak Sangh (NBYS) 24-18 with Anisha Sontakke emerging as the top scorer with 12 points.
In other games, hosts SNG teams in both the boys and girls’ section won their respective games. While SNG girls outplayed Nagpur Amateur Sports Association (NASA) 40-9 their boys outfit blanked PDSA 89-0.
Earlier, the tournament was inaugurated by mayor and convener of the mahotsav Sandip Joshi. President of SNG Avinash Bendre presided over the function. On the occasion NDBA secretary Bhavesh Kuchanwar, working president Pranay Ghate, Shatrughan Gokhale, Ravindra Kulkarni, Hemant Balbudhe, Ashish Bhide, Mahesh Gaherwar, Ayush Agrawal and others were present.

Big Ben Club win opener
Giftson Saji struck in the second half as Big Ben Club beat Nagpur Blues in the opening outing of the football tournament at the Motibagh ground on Monday.
After playing a goalless draw, Big Ben shot into the lead in the 75th minute of play when Saji made no mistake in finding the net.
Nagpur Blues tried hard to take the match into the tie-breaker by scoring an equalizer but Big Ben stood tall in defence line to thwart their moves.
Saji was named as the best player of the match while Ataur Rehman was named best player from the losing side.
