National, state legal services to distribute artificial limbs
Chief Justice of India Sharad Bobde will inaugurate the camp on March 1
Nagpur: The National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) would be organizing an artificial limb and fitness camp for specially abled persons from March 1 to 7 at MLA Hostel. Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sharad Bobde has taken interest in the project, and consented to inaugurate it.
“The guests would distribute pairs of artificial fitments, specially brought from Jaipur, which is famous for artificial limbs, to divyang persons.
The fitments include callipers, wheelchairs, crutches and also artificial limb fitments. They would be distributed free of cost. Over 2,000 fitments would be distributed to needy persons. Disabled persons should register their names with legal services authorities in respective districts of the state,” said registrar (administration) Anju Shende.
Besides the CJI, the event would be graced by Supreme Court judges, including Bhushan Gavai, Surya Kant and Ravindra Bhat, along with senior administrative judge at Nagpur bench of Bombay high court Ravi Deshpande, and others.
“The camp has been organized by NALSA in coordination with Maharashtra State Legal Services Authority (MSLSA), Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti (BMVSS), and Mahaveer International.
An artificial hand fitment is one of the special tools newly introduced by BMVSS. Though deadline for registration is February 25, those who approach after that would also be extended help. No one would be sent back without a fitment,” said Shende, who was accompanied by registrar (judicial) Amit Joshi and DLSA secretary Abhijeet Deshmukh.
Terming it the biggest ever such camp in India, Joshi said MSLSA and DLSA were also holding a massive awareness campaign across the state for identifying needy persons.
“We’re not just looking at beneficiaries from Maharashtra, but also from neighbouring states. We’ve arranged for the stay of needy persons at MLA Hostel, where those coming from Jaipur would take measurements and prepare artificial limbs. There would be stalls providing information about various government schemes for the poor and divyangs,” he said.
Deshmukh added that the beneficiaries would be required to carry identity proof like Aadhaar or voting card during registration.
