NEW DELHI: The capital breathed its cleanest air in over three months on Wednesday, with the air quality in the ‘good’ category for large parts of the day.
While the Air Quality Index for Delhi slipped to a reading of 51 (satisfactory) when CPCB released its daily bulletin at 4pm, it remained in the ‘good’ category for Greater Noida and Ghaziabad – both recording an AQI of 44.
Following a spell of light rain in the morning, the city’s AQI had dropped to a reading of 44 by the afternoon.
Good wind speed also helped disperse pollutants, allowing the region to breathe ‘good’ air, officials said. The last time Delhi had recorded a ‘good’ air day was on March 28, 2020, the first week of the lockdown, when the reading fell to 45.
The System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research also classified Delhi’s air as ‘good’ on its index, adding that a spell of rain in the next 24 hours should keep the AQI in the ‘good’ category.
