GMC plans to set up cow dung bank
Ghaziabad: The Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation (GMC) is planning to set up a cow dung bank in the district to deal with problems of haphazard dumping of waste by the dairies, said officials. They added that the department is in talks with a few private firms, who have shown interest in the initiative.
Additionally, officials said, there is a plan to start online registration of dairies in Ghaziabad.
Municipal commissioner Mahendra Singh Tanwar said, “Major problems arise due to the dung being discharged in drains and thus choking them over.” Tanwar added that the private firm would use the dung to manufacture organic products like manure and dung cakes among others.
In July this year, Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) had issued a slew of guidelines for reducing air, water and ground pollution in dairies and gaushalas (cowsheds) operating in municipal areas.
CPCB guidelines mandated that dairies and gaushalas should have adequate infrastructure to ensure proper handling, treatment and disposal of solid wastes and waste water.
