NOIDA: With only one shelter home meant for homeless and distressed women in GB Nagar, residents are now looking at different shelter homes in Delhi for women needing help.
TOI had reported on August 7 about two women, who were found roaming aimlessly on the roads by locals, after which police was informed but they could not be admitted to the Nari Niketan since the shelter home authorities demanded that three tests be conducted upon the women -- pregnancy, Covid-19 and a medical examination as per norms and the police didn’t get the tests done.

National Commission for Women (NCW) too had taken cognisance of the matter and decided to write to the Noida police asking why women were not provided assistance.
In a similar incident, Sector 58 cops on Monday found a homeless and unwell woman in a disheveled condition in the green belt of Sector 57 opposite the Radisson Hotel in Sector 56 around 10 am.
Cops who reached the spot told TOI that while the woman was not mentally upset, she was unwell and had urinated in her clothes itself.
“According to the locals, she had been roaming around in the area for the past six months. She used to be spotted at different locations. On Monday, she was found in a very bad condition with flies stuck on her body. She had excreted in her clothes and seemed almost on the verge of dying. A lady constable was asked to help her take a bath and wear clothes,” sub inspector Vikram Singh of the Sector 57 police station said. A mediaperson got the news of the incident and contacted a local NGO called Naitik Sewa Santhan in Sector 56 after which, some volunteers from the NGO arrived at the spot and helped the woman have food.
Cops said they tried multiple shelter homes across Noida meant for the elderly and women, but could most refused admission citing rules.
However, a government-run shelter home in Delhi’s Badarpur gave admission to the woman. Ramchandra, one of the volunteers from the NGO said after receiving information, they reached the spot around 4.30 pm and later took the woman to a government-run shelter home in Badarpur.
