Small- and medium-scale industries get training to list on portal for e-market place
Noida: To streamline their businesses, small- and medium-scale industry (SME) owners of the district are going through a series of training to get themselves listed on Union government’s e-marketplace portal, known as GeM.
Indian Industries Association (IIA), which is conducting the workshops, says the online end-to-end marketplace will help the SMEs respond to any supply chain challenges in times of a crisis.
There are around 10,000 SMEs in Noida, of which 500 produces essential items.
“We have been hosting a series of webinars for the SME operators of the district under the guidance of the department of trade and commerce of the UP government. Though it was launched in 2016, many SMS owners are not aware of the GeM platform. So, we are now providing the necessary training to our entrepreneurs so that they can leverage this site,” Kulmani Gupta, IIA president, said.
Gupta said the SME sector has been badly hit due to the lockdown, which has disrupted supply chains. “Getting on board GeM will help close that gap. So we want all SME owners to purchase and sell through the platform and also benefit from competitive pricing,” he added. IIA has already hosted a series of webinars to introduce the concept of how to procure selling and purchasing rights via the portal.
