GREATER NOIDA: A 50-year-old woman was allegedly strangled to death by her 15-year-old son at their home in Dhoom-Manikpur village of Greater Noida on Saturday.
Police said the woman, had several “irritating habits”, and would wake up in the middle of night to ask for tobacco. She lived with her two sons and husband, who works as a security guard with a private agency in Chapraula area.
Their elder son, too, works as a guard with a company.

The woman’s repeated demands for tobacco would upset everyone in the family, cops said. Her younger son is the prime suspect because her husband and elder son were away at work when the alleged murder took place. There was no evidence of burglary, too.
It was the husband who saw her lying motionless on the cot at their home. Their younger son was also sleeping in the same room, he apparently told the cops. The husband, however, has ruled out his son’s involvement in the murder, and has lodged a complaint against unknown persons. The family is from Etah, but has been staying in Greater Noida for the past several years.
Pathneesh Kumar, the SHO of Badalpur police station, said the husband had mentioned in his complaint that his wife was throttled by an unknown person while his younger son lay asleep in the same room.
The boy, however, gave a contrasting version. He is believed to have told police that he was upset with his mother’s “nagging nature” and repeated demands for tobacco even in the middle of the night. “She had weird habits, it seems,” Kumar added.

SP (rural) Ranvijay Singh echoed the boy’s version. He said the family had told the cops she would wake up the boy in the middle of the night and ask for tobacco. “When her husband and elder son would leave for work, the woman would be left with the boy alone and frequently make demands for tobacco, etc. Around one and a half months back, the boy was bitten by a snake and had to be hospitalised. He appears to be mentally challenged,” he added.
Based on the complaint, an FIR has been lodged against unknown persons under IPC Section 302 (murder). The boy is in custody of the police.
Cops said the accused could be booked under the Juvenile Justice Act and sent to an observation home. “Since he is mentally disturbed, he will get some benefits under the right to general exemptions of Section 84 of the IPC. Under that, if someone is not in a capacity to understand the consequences of his act, he will get some advantage at a later stage,” Singh said.
