Bihar: 50 expelled across state on Day 1 of Matric exams

An impersonator was caught in Gaya and 50 students were expelled for using unfair means across the state on the first day of Matriculation examinations conducted by Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) on Monday. Action was also taken against two magistrates in Nalanda district for dereliction of duty.

PATNA: An impersonator was caught in Gaya and 50 students were expelled for using unfair means across the state on the first day of Matriculation examinations conducted by Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) on Monday. Action was also taken against two magistrates in Nalanda district for dereliction of duty.
The BSEB issued a press release in the evening, saying the examinations were conducted peacefully across the state.
To ensure fair examinations, the BSEB had prepared 10 different sets of question papers. BSEB chairman Anand Kishor visited some examination centres and instructed the officials on duty to be strict.
Altogether 15,29,393 candidates, including 7,83,034 girls, wrote science papers on the first day at 1,368 centres across the state. In Patna, the examinations were conducted at 74 centres.
Two magistrates face heat in Nalanda: Nalanda district magistrate Yogendra Kumar Singh ordered issuance of show cause notices against two magistrates – Mohit Kumar and Jayesh Kumar Sinha – after finding that students were communicating with one another in the examination halls. While Mohit was deputed at Biharsharif's Allama Iqbal College, Jayesh was on duty at Aadarsh High School. The DM also ordered removal of invigilators – Upendra Singh and Furqan Alam from Allama Iqbal College, Dayanand Mishra from Adarsh High School and Chanchala Kumari and Karuna Kumari from Nalanda College – for mismanagement.
Nalanda district education officer Manoj Kumar said of 47,689 examinees at 36 centres in the district, 1,189 did not take the examination and 11 were expelled for using unfair means.
Bagaha teachers wear black armbands: In spite of the strike called by contractual teachers, the Matriculation examinations were conducted peacefully in Bagaha. However, permanent teachers wore black armbands as mark of support to their contractual counterparts who were on strike.

Lathicharge in Motihari: Police resorted to mild lathicharge on the onlookers and some guardians near Prabhawati Gupta High School in Motihari after they tried to create trouble. Motihari SDM Priyranjan Raju reached the centre and brought the situation under control. The Matric examinations were conducted at 56 examination centres in East Champaran district. DM Raman Kumar said Section 144 had been promulgated near all examination centres.
49,561 write papers in Bhojpur: A 15-year-old examinee, Riya Kumari, came in contact with a live wire after returning from an examination hall. Riya, a resident of Farhada village under the Barhara police station area in Bhojpur district, was staying at her the house of her father’s friend at Sankat Mochan Nagar locality to write papers. Meanwhile 49,561 students appeared at 36 centres in the Matric examination in the Bhojpur district . District public relations officer Pramod Kumar said 103 magistrates, 80 police officers and a large number of police personnel were deployed at examination centres.
Fake question paper: Sitamarhi DM Abhilasha Kumari Sharma said the question paper doing rounds on social media was a fake one. A team headed by civil SDO Kumar Gaurav investigated and zeroed in on those involved in spreading the rumour.
No expulsion in Begusarai: The examinations passed off peacefully in Begusarai district. Begusarai district education officer Devendra Jha said no candidate was expelled in the district. He said the strike by niyojit teachers had no impact on the examinations.
