Bihar crosses 10,000-mark, ranks 13th in coronavirus cases

PATNA: Bihar on Wednesday joined the states and union territories with more than 10,000 coronavirus cases. It is now at 13th place in the country with over 10,000 positive cases reported so far.
According to Union ministry of health and family welfare on Wednesday morning, Maharashtra was on top crossing one lakh positive cases, followed by Tamil Nadu and Delhi with 90,167 and 87360 cases respectively.
Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh had 32557 and 23492 cases respectively. Bihar was just below Madhya Pradesh which had reported 13,593 cases till Wednesday morning.
Bihar reported its first three cases on March 22. The data analysis shows the state crossed the 50-mark on April 9 and jumped to 100 cases on April 20. It took just four more days to reach 200 and doubled to 400 in another five days on April 29.
The month of May saw fast increase in Covid-19 cases in Bihar, crossing 800 figure on May 12 and 1600 in just eight days on May 20. On May 29, the figure crossed 3200 and doubled in 16 days to 6400 on June 14.
Of the total cases reported so far in Bihar, 5,549 were migrants who returned from outside the state after May 3. Also, 7,455 of the total corona patients had recovered from the virus till Tuesday. As per the state health department figures on Tuesday, 2,20,890 samples had been tested in Bihar so far.
When asked about the strategy to curb the Covid-19 spread, state health secretary Lokesh Kumar Singh said, “We are focusing on the awareness drive to put on mask and maintain physical distance. Various mediums are being used and a special drive was launched on Tuesday for this purpose. Also, all the houses in containment zones are under surveillance. Samples of symptomatic people are being taken, besides some random samples.”
Singh said there are 1,056 active containment zones in the state. He further said the government had been changing the strategy, as per the requirement. “We had tested all the foreign returnees and collected random samples of those who had come from other states, especially from red zones,” said Singh.
