PATNA: Bihar CM Nitish Kumar on Saturday undertook an aerial survey of different embankments and flood-affected areas in many districts of Bhagalpur, Darbhanga, Munger, Purnia and Kosi divisions.
Soon after taking off from the Patna airport by a state-owned helicopter, the CM at the first undertook a survey of flood-affected areas in Samastipur, Begusarai and Khagaria districts in the catchment area of Burhi Gandak river.
He then flew over many areas in Saharsa, Supaul and Bhagalpur which have been inundated by the floodwaters from Kosi river.

Accompanied by the state's chief secretary Deepak Kumar, principal secretary to the CM Chanchal Kumar and the WRD secretary Sanjiv Hans, Nitish also flew over Ganga river in Bhagalpur and Katihar districts. He further made an aerial survey of different blocks of Katihar, Purnia, Kishanganj and Araria districts which have been flooded by Mahananda, Parman and Kankai rivers.

Nitish later held a review meeting with Purnia divisional commissioner Ms Safina A N and the Purnia DM Rahul Kumar at the conference hall of the Chunapur airstrip in Purnia. He took information about the flood and Covid-19 scenario in the region from the officials.
The CM also inquired about the preparations made by the district administration to face the challenges of floods in the area. "Though the water-level of different rivers in the region is currently low, the possibility of floods will remain till the end of September month. Hence, the administration should remain in alert mode and be prepared," Nitish told the officials after the review meeting.

JD(U) MLA and former minister Lesie Singh also was present during the review meeting.
The CM further asked the officials to expedite testing for Covid-19 in all those areas where there is a possibility of arrival of floods. He also asked the Purnia DM to set up a Covid-19 testing camp at the Chunapur airbase.
The CM later flew to Birpur in Supaul district. At Birpur, he inspected eastern embankment of Kosi river and issued necessary instructions to the officials.
