A 21-year-old Covid-19 positive, Rohit Kumar committed suicide by jumping from third floor of a bathroom window at AIIMS-Patna on Friday, where he was admitted for treatment.

PATNA: A 21-year-old Covid-19 patient, Rohit Kumar on Friday jumped to death from the third floor of a bathroom window at AIIMS Patna where he was admitted for treatment.
Rohit, a resident of Bihta, was the youngest of five siblings and a bachelors final year student. His father Brajesh Kumar, a railway employee said he last had telephonic conversation with his son between 3pm to 4pm.
“He told me he was feeling weak and was suffering from loose motion. I told him he will recover soon. But I did not think he would take such a step,” said Brajesh.
AIIMS Patna Covid-19 nodal in charge Dr Sanjeev Kumar said Rohit jumped from the bathroom window of a ward in the evening. “He was admitted on July 20 and his condition was moderate. He had no medical history,” said Dr Sanjeev. However, he said he had no idea about his mental condition.
This is the second suicide of a patient admitted with coronavirus at AIIMS Patna and third in Bihar. Previous month on June 22, a 32-year-old resident of Khagaul had committed suicide by hanging himself in an empty room. Though the man was positive for Covid-19, his second report which came just after his suicide was negative.
Before him, a 30-year-old migrant worker who had returned from Delhi had hanged himself in the quarantine centre at Hajipur on May 20. However, his report came after his suicide and was positive for Covid-19. Civil surgeon had that time claimed this 30-year-old was in depression as he was quarantined earlier also when in Delhi.
