Bihar: Mukhiya held for accepting Rs 1.16 lakh as bribe

The vigilance investigation bureau sleuths arrested Shiora panchayat mukhiya Jawahar Chaudhary (50) while allegedly accepting Rs1.16 lakh as bribe from one Anil Kumar Singh near the Patori Bazaar branch of Indian Bank under Patori police station area in Samastipur on Wednesday. Vigilance sources said that Anil is ward councillor in the panchayat and was involved in construction of two roads. Sources said the payment of Rs 4.63 lakh was kept pending by the mukhiya, who had demanded 35% as commission.

Body recovered: The body of one Bisri Bhagwan (45) was recovered from a field at Gendatola under Naubatpur police station area in western Patna on Wednesday morning. SHO Samrat Deepak Kumar said no injury mark was visible on the body. Kumar said the deceased was a daily wager and a resident of Gendatola. He said the deceased was reported missing from Tuesday morning and his body was recovered around 4km away from his residence.
Retired cop granted bail: The Patna high court on Tuesday granted regular bail to retired additional SP Raj Kumar Yadav in connection with a kidnapping case at Davtal under Danapur police station area in Patna in 1995. Yadav was then the SHO of Kotwali police station. Yadav’s counsel Amit Narayan said the retired officer was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment by a fast track court on January 31 this year after holding him guilty in the kidnapping case. He said two FIRs were lodged several months after the youths were kidnapped and the case was handed over to the CBI for investigation in 1996.
One held with illegally booked railway tickets: RPF personnel seized 12 reserved railway tickets, mostly Tatkal, from Shree Balaji Travels located near Shivpuri crossing under Shastri Nagar police station area in the state capital on Tuesday. RPF commandant SK Rathode said the tickets were meant to be used in future and they were worth around Rs30,000. He said shopowner Shantanu Khandelwal was also arrested. He said 93 personal accounts of IRCTC were being used for booking tickets at the travel agency. Patna Junction RPF station SHO VK Singh, who conducted the raid, said Shantanu was using an illegal software to book tickets by breaching the IRCTC server. He said altogether 2,259 railway journey tickets worth around Rs48 lakh were booked by him since 2017.
Shopkeeper shot at: Three unidentified armed criminals shot at one Munna Prasad (45) inside his general store at Ambedkar Path under Rajeev Nagar police station area in Patna on Tuesday night. SHO Nishant Kumar said Munna received gunshot injury on his left foot. He said three criminals reached the shop when he was about to close it after 10.30pm. SHO said the criminals asked him for a cigarette which he had provided them. Suddenly he spotted one of the criminals holding a pistol. SHO said Munna apprehended threat to life and attacked the criminal who opened fire. SHO said 3 empty cartridges of 9mm were recovered from the spot.
No arresting in Neora murder case: Police were yet to arrest anyone for the murder of one Vikash Kumar (26), who was shot dead on Bihta-Khagaul main road near village Bela under Neora outpost of Bihta police station area around 6.30pm on Tuesday. Outpost incharge Santosh Kumar said property dispute is suspected to be the reason behind the killing. He said the deceased was going to Motichowk in Khagaul from his Bishanpura village when bike-borne criminals intercepted and shot him dead at close-range.
