Puducherry reports one more Covid-19 case

PUDUCHERRY: A 36-year-old man from Thiripura Nagar in Puducherry has tested positive for Covid-19. He was admitted to isolation ward in Indira Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute (IGMCRI).
Inquiries revealed that the man, an employee at a factory at Nettapakkam, visited Ponlait milk booth near Arumparthapuram petrol bunk and the supermarket in the main road. He went to an electronic appliances showroom in Reddiarpalayam along with his neighbour by in a car and bought a television on May 7.
He visited a chicken centre at Kathirkamam near the Kanagan lake on May 10. He was attending work in night shift at the factory. He was travelling by the company bus and was working with 15 other employees in the shift.
He complained of fever and headache while returning home on the company bus on the morning of May 11.
The man approached a private hospital for treatment and was attended to by three nurses and a doctor at the emergency ward. He was referred to IGMCRI for further tests. His throat swab samples were taken for testing.
He went to the factory again at 5am on May 12 in company bus along with six members and worked with 15 colleagues during the shift and returned home in the same bus with the same six members.
His test result declared that he has contracted Covid-19 infection. He was immediately shifted to IGMCRI isolation ward.
Healthcare officials have commenced initiatives to test all the people who came in contact with him including his wife and two children, a doctor, three staff nurses, junior residents who screened and took samples from him, screening interns and nursing officers at a private hospital.
The authorities have launched efforts to trace the 15 colleagues who worked with him during the shift at the factory, six employees who travelled with him in the company bus and bus drivers, the electronic appliances showroom salesman and television installer and the chicken seller among others.
The Union territory of Puducherry has so far reported 18 Covid-19 cases. Nine of them have recovered and have been discharged from various hospitals. Three are undergoing treatment at IGMCRI, one in Karaikal Government General Hospital and five (three from Cuddalore district and two from Villupuram district of Tamil Nadu) in Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (Jipmer).
