JAMSHEDPUR: Taps ran dry in more than 4,000 houses in
Tata Steel-administered areas in Jamshedpur on Tuesday evening after
GAIL India damaged the main pipeline near Bhootnath Mandir, disturbing water supply in the city.
A press release issued by Jusco informed that more than lakhs of residents living in Sonari, Ramnagar, Beldihgram and CH Area did not get their evening quota of water.
Jusco officials said that repair work is going on a war footing so that water supply can be restored by Wednesday morning.
Due to the negligence of GAIL several gallons of precious filtered water went wasted after the pipeline was damaged, alleged Jusco officials. Officials said this is not the first time GAIL has damaged Jusco water pipeline, adding that earlier damages were small and could be rectified soon but this one will take time.
Notably GAIL has undertaken work in several parts of
Steel City to lay pipes for distributing cooking gas directly to houses.
Officials said households are being informed about the sudden disturbance in water supply. Jusco supplies water in Tata Steel administered areas twice a day at most places.
