RU serves showcause notice to 2 city colleges for violating Covid norms
Ranchi: Hours after the district administration issued showcause notices to two colleges affiliated to the Ranchi University (RU) for their alleged violation of social distancing norms in their campuses, the university on Tuesday evening issued notices to the principals seeking explanation on the issue.
Confirming the development, RU vice-chancellor Dr Ramesh Pandey said he issued the notices on the basis of reports of violation of social distancing norms at Ranchi Women’s College and Doranda College.

Doranda College principal V S Tiwari said a large number of students are coming to the campus for hard copies of the intermediate results, which were declared by Jharkhand Academic Council last month and as a result, social distancing is going for a toss. “Though we maintain social distancing inside the campus, those waiting outside do not follow the norms,” Tiwari said.
He added, “We have now deployed additional staff inside and outside the campus to ensure safety norms are followed. Additional thermal guns have been given to the staff to speed up the screening process. In addition to this, the local police have been asked to help the college administration in managing the students gathered outside the campus.”
Principal of Ranchi Women’s College, Manju Sinham, said owing to an unexpected gathering of students on the campus on Monday, the situation went out of control despite the staff requesting them to maintain social distancing norms. “Keeping the safety protocols in mind, every day we call only a handful of students to the campus for various purposes like collecting examination forms, etc. But on Monday, many pupils, who were not even asked to come, turned up with their parents which led to a gathering in the campus. Even though our staff requested them to maintain the safety norms, there were some who did not follow them.”
As a precautionary measure, the college has now barred people from lining up near the counters and has made seating arrangements in a large hall for the students.
Meanwhile, RU vice-chancellor issued a directive to all its affiliated colleges, reiterating that educational institutes should remain shut till August 31 and in case of a gathering of students for any specific purpose, social distancing norms must be followed.
