Two detained in Bhiwandi with Rs 1 crore in scrapped currency notes

Two men were detained with Rs 1 crore in demonetised Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 notes. Jalgaon resident Gopal Varude (42) and Kalyan resident Arun Patil (54) were intercepted by Shanti Nagar police officers on patrol on Monday night.

BHIWANDI: Two men were detained with Rs 1 crore in demonetised Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 notes. Jalgaon resident Gopal Varude (42) and Kalyan resident Arun Patil (54) were intercepted by Shanti Nagar police officers on patrol on Monday night.
The two said they had come there to exchange the money. The police found 8000 scrapped Rs 1,000 notes and 4000 scrapped Rs 500 notes.
An NC complaint was registered against them under sections of the Specified Bank Notes Act, 2017. They were questioned and released. RBI and the IT department have been alerted about the seized notes.
