4.2 lakh students to take Kerala SSLC examination

Preparations are nearing completion for the conduct of Kerala SSLC examination for the academic year 2019-20. Distribution of hall tickets to candidates appearing for secondary school leaving certificate (SSLC) examination under Kerala board would be complete by Monday. Over 4.2 lakh students have been registered for the year's state board exam, slated to begin on March 10.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Preparations are nearing completion for the conduct of Kerala SSLC examination for the academic year 2019-20. Distribution of hall tickets to candidates appearing for secondary school leaving certificate (SSLC) examination under Kerala board would be complete by Monday. Over 4.2 lakh students have been registered for the year's state board exam, slated to begin on March 10.

The examination would be finished by March 26. The school final examination is offered in four languages - Malayalam, English, Tamil and Kannada. Examinations are conducted in nine subjects and the score obtained by candidates in the continuing evaluation (CE) would be taken into account while calculating the final marks. While the ratio of marks allotted between written examination and CE is 80:20 for English, mathematics, social sciences, it is 40:10 for other papers, excluding information technology. The score for IT is 10:10:30 for CE, theory and practical test.
The duration of examinations with scores 80 and 40 are 2.5 hours and 1.5 hours, respectively. There will be 15 minutes cool-off time before all examinations. Score of the candidates will not be written in the SSLC certificate as the examination is held on a nine-point grading scale. Candidates who score a grade value of 9 would be eligible for A+ grade. Likewise, it would be A, B+, B, C+, C , D+ and D for candidates scoring 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3 and 2 grades in the valuation. D+ for all is the minimum grade for eligibility to higher education.
Around 48% students appearing for the examinations would be writing it in English medium. Of the 4,22,347 students appearing for SSLC examination this year, 2,01,259 have opted for English medium. Students taking the exam in Malayalam are 2,17,184, Tamil 2,377 and in Kannada are 1,527.
