THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan termed the verdict by the international court of arbitration in the
Enrica Lexie case 'unfortunate'.
The state's stand in the case will be communicated to the Union government, he said. The Centre has committed
criminal lapse in establishing the legal possibility of the case registered by the previous UDF government with regards to the murder of two fishermen by Italian marines abode the Enrica Lexie, the then chief minister
Oommen Chandy said.
The Centre should take steps to reconsider the verdict, in which the accused have been exonerated of all criminal charges and the justice for the families of the deceased have been limited to financial compensation, he said.
BJP state president K Surendran said the verdict that the families of the deceased are eligible for compensation is a recognition to the strong stand taken in this regard by the Centre.
