THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala has put forth 10 suggestions before chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan to contain the surge in Covid-19 cases in state and demanded the government to ensure ‘a joint effort and public support which marked the fight against the pandemic during its first phase in the state’.
“We are losing out on all options but to survive with Covid-19, which calls for an extreme vigil to be kept by each individual.
The situation also demands transparency in testing and announcement of results,” he said during a video conference of MPs and MLAs convened by the CM on Tuesday.
The opposition leader also stressed the need for enhancing the prevention activities considering the influx of Keralites from abroad and other states.
Placing his recommendations, Chennithala said the government should formulate a separate policy to receive people coming from places having high prevalence of Covid-19.
“Malayalis who are in miserable conditions elsewhere have to be brought back strictly adhering to health protocol. But there’s a need to prepare an ‘intensive management protocol’ for people coming from high-risk areas,” he said. Demanding to enhance facilities for institutional quarantine, he said the district collectors should immediately review the existing facilities.
Testing should be increased at the rate of 100 tests per one lakh persons, for which required test kits should be made available, he said. Chennithala also demanded immediate remedial measures and transparency in testing data. He also demanded special care for prevention of other epidemics possible during monsoon.
Among other recommendations were active participation of private hospitals in anti-Covid activities, including in testing, adequate treatment for non-Covid diseases, implementation of an ‘infection control protocol’ for health workers and police, panchayat and revenue officials, release of additional funds to local bodies and a proper research on the spread of Covid-19 in state.
