THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Putting an end to speculations, chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday announced the government’s decision to make no changes in the revised schedule of SSLC and higher secondary exams. As per the schedule currently in place, the pending exams would start on May 26.
“SSLC, higher secondary and vocational higher secondary exams will be held as per the schedule announced recently.
There are no changes regarding the conduct of the exams scheduled for this month,” Vijayan told reporters on Monday. The decision, said sources, was taken after detailed discussions with education minister C Raveendranath and senior officials.
Rumours about the possibility of the state government dumping the revised exam schedule were flying thick and fast since the Union government’s announcement about the fourth spell of lockdown. As per the revised schedule announced by the state government, SSLC, higher secondary and vocational higher secondary exams would be held from May 26 to 30, obeying to social distancing norms and other required vigil.
Meanwhile, opposition leaders have come out against the government’s decision to go ahead with the plans to conduct exams during the extended lockdown period. KPCC president Mullappally Ramachandran said the government should go by the opinion of medical experts while taking decisions on conduct of exams attended by a large number of students. BJP spokesperson B Gopalakrishnan said the government’s move to conduct exams defying the lockdown restrictions was improper and dangerous and the government should not force students to come out in large numbers to attend the public exam during the lockdown period.
