Kerala: Sourceless cases confirmed in over 15 city wards in Thiruvananthapuram

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Isolated cases with no travel history or contact with Covid-19 positives cases were reported at Kazhakootam, Kariyavattom, Kumarapuram, Vazhayila in the city as 40 positive cases were reported in the district on Sunday. A 25-year-old male and a 49-year-old male were confirmed with Covid-19 infection. Three females from Kariyavattom, Kazhakootam and Peroorkada were also tested positive for Covid-19.
Cases were also reported from Fort and Muttada wards in the city.
In addition to coastal wards in the city, Covid-19 positive cases have been reported from around 15 city wards. Owing to the huge case load, the district medical team has not been able to reveal much details about the travel history or possible origin of infection in any of these cases.
Primary transmission has already been reported in Palayam which involves a food delivery guy, a restaurant waiter, an employee at a commercial complex and a delivery guy of a retail chain. Wards like Manacaud, Attukal have been consistently reporting cases; although not in clusters. Of the 40 cases reported on Sunday, seven persons came from abroad and other states. Two among the imported cases arrived from Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. Two persons from other districts; Koratti in Thrissur and Karippur resident were also tested positive in the district on Sunday.
As many as 777 persons were brought under disease surveillance in the district on Saturday. A total of 1122 persons completed the observation period without showing symptoms. As many as 18,280 persons and 1,794 are under room isolation in houses and Covid-care centres, respectively. A total of 75 persons were admitted to hospitals with disease symptoms and 36 persons were discharged on Saturday. As many as 538 persons are under observation in different hospitals in the district. A total of 805 samples were sent for testing and 631 results have been received.
