KOTTAYAM: Close on the heels of the CPM withdrawing complaint against the NSS for seeking votes on the ground of caste and religion during the Vattioyoorkavu bypoll, Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) president N Vasu called on NSS general secretary G Sukumaran Nair at the latter's office last week. The meeting is looked upon as an effort by the CPM to pacify the NSS, which has been at loggerheads with the party and the LDF government on the Sabarimala issue.

The visit comes soon after the government and the TDB took a strong stand against allowing women into Sabarimala. The NSS has been maintaining a stand against the entry of women in Sabarimala and openly condemned the CPM and Left government for not supporting the devotees on this issue. The visit by TDB president is seen as part of the efforts of the CPM to pacify the NSS. Vasu, who took an appointment with Nair, reached his office on Saturday afternoon and spend around 20 minutes with Nair behind closed doors.
According to sources, NSS general secretary reiterated the stand of the NSS against the entry of women to Sabarimala. He also conveyed his protest and concern of the NSS regarding the move by the state for preparing a separate law to administer Sabarimala temple. He told Vasu that if Sabarimala was brought under a special rule, it would ruin the TDB and it will affect around 1,200 temples which were surviving from the revenue of Sabarimala. TNN
