Mercury will soar in Kerala on Feb 14: IMD
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India meteorological department has warned that the mercury will soar in Kerala especially in the cities like Thiruvananthapuram, Allappuzha and Kottayam on Friday. From the normal temperature there will be an increase of temperature by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius.
Following this warning the state disaster management authority has issued caution among the people who are working outdoors.
The caution has been issued to prevent sun stroke.
The authority has urged the people who are having serious illness, senior citizens, pregnant ladies and children not to come directly under the sun between 11 am and 3 pm on Friday. All the construction workers, online food distributors, policemen on traffic duty, street side vendors have been asked to drink more water during the day and take adequate rest in between while on duty.
The labour commissioner has issued a directive imposing restriction in the duty timings of the people who are working in the open fields during this summer. From February 11 to April 30, it has been ordered to give mandatory break for the labourers between 12 noon and 3 pm. The eight hours working time should be adjusted between 7 am and 7 pm.
This directive has been issued in the wake of the reports that this year the state will be witnessing a heat wave in the summer. Heat stroke has been predicted in the state and hence people have been asked to ensure adequate protection while going out between 12 noon and 3 pm.
