KOZHIKODE: One more person - Sulaikha (56) of Mavoor -- died of Covid-19 infection at Kozhikode medical college hospital on Sunday night while the state reported 61 more cases on the day.
The deceased woman had arrived from Riyadh in Saudi Arabia on May 20 with her husband in a special Air India flight at Kannur airport and was under quarantine. She was shifted to the medical college hospital on May 25 after she developed Covid pneumonia on May 25 and to the intensive care unit on May 28.
She was suffering from heart disease and hypertension.
The total number of Covid cases in the state rose to 1,269, of whom 670 are under treatment now. Of the new cases, 20 persons came from abroad and 37 from other states -- 20 from Maharashtra, six from Tamil Nadu, five from New Delhi, four from Karnataka and one each from Gujarat and Rajasthan. Two persons each in Kollam and Palakkad were infected by contact.
As many as 12 persons who tested positive on Sunday are from Palakkad, 10 from Kasaragod, seven from Kannur, six each from Kollam and Alappuzha, four each from Thiruvananthapuram and Pathanamthitta, three each from Thrissur, Malappuram and Wayanad, two from Kozhikode and one from Ernakulam.
Two districts -- Palakkad (138) and Kannur (117) -- have over 100 active cases now, followed by Kasaragod (76), Malappuram (57), Thiruvananthapuram (48), Thrissur (40), Kozhikode (38), Alappuzha (36) and Kollam (30).
As many as 1,34,654 people are under surveillance in the state, of whom 1,241 are admitted to designated isolation facilities. Till date, 65,002 samples (including augmented ones) have been sent for tests, of which 64,093 came negative. Besides, 11,604 of 12,506 samples taken from priority groups like healthcare workers, persons with high social exposure, workers etc. as part of sentinel surveillance also tested negative.

Meanwhile, the test results of 15 Covid-19 patients came negative on Sunday, of whom five are in Kannur (including one person from Kasaragod), four in Kozhikode, two each in Pathanamthitta and Malappuram and one each in Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam.
Palakkad (13,803) has the maximum number of people under observation, followed by Malappuram (13,797), Ernakulam (13,277), Thrissur (13,081), Kannur (12,807) and Kozhikode (11,401).
