THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan has suggested changing the working hours of schools and colleges from early morning to noon. He said the culture of college students doing part-time jobs must be fostered and for that 8am to 1.30pm time slot will be ideal.
"Let society discuss the suggestion," he said in his weekly television programme 'Naam Munnottu'. At present, there are some schools which function from 8am to 1.30pm.
The students get more time to devote to studies if the school timings are changed like this. “Already, the government has declared a part-time job as a policy. If the college timings are changed then the part-time job culture can be promoted,” he said.
The chief minister also stressed the need for providing skill development training for the beneficiaries of Life Mission project. “The local bodies are starting the scheme from April 1 to find at least five kinds of jobs for 1,000 people. In this, the beneficiaries of Life Mission project can also be included,” said the chief minister.
Earlier several departments had different housing schemes. Now, all these have been integrated and brought under the Life Mission programme. In this, central funds are also being utilised. The local bodies have been asked to do this as a community-based programme such that people from all walks of life come together to construct houses for the homeless.
It has been decided to prepare a fresh list of beneficiaries in the next phase of the Life Mission project. Hence this will include the people who could not find a place in the first list. For finding the beneficiaries, specific guidelines were issued and some of the local bodies have done exemplary work in completing the houses under the scheme in a time-bound manner, he added.
At the end of the first two phases of the scheme, two lakh people have received own houses. In the third phase, people who have no own land and house will be included. The people who are living in poramboke will also be included in this list. The third phase of the scheme should be completed by the end of 2021, the chief minister said.
