UDAIPUR: A Gujarati couple died while their two teenage children were in critical condition after consuming poison at their hotel room in Sector 14 under the Goverdhan Vilas police station limit on Wednesday.
The couple—identified as Nainesh (55), son of Hasmukhlal Shah, and his wife Damini (48)—were declared dead in the hospital.
While their 15-year-old son Nand is in a critical condition, the couple’s 13-year-old daughter Reeti is said to be out of danger.

The family arrived in Udaipur on Wednesday noon and, as per hotel records, are residents of Maheta Wada, Limda Chowk, Modasa in Sabarkantha district of Gujarat.
Udaipur SP Kailash Chandra Bishnoi said the case prima facie appeared to be one of suicide pact. “Though the reasons are not yet known, we have spoken to their kin who said the deceased man was a property dealer facing some financial crisis,” he said.
The family arrived in an autorickshaw to Hotel Harsh Palace on the Ahmedabad-Udaipur highway and checked into a room on the first floor around 12.15pm.
‘Nainesh lied to his family’

Udaipur: The hotel manager told the police that Nainesh had said that they would take rest for an hour and then go out for sightseeing.
After an hour, the staff saw the girl coming down the stairs and vomiting. She told the staff that the family had consumed poison. Though the hotel staff rushed them to the government hospital, the couple died during treatment.
The bodies have been shifted to the mortuary and relatives informed of the tragedy.
“It seems to be a planned suicide attempt. Nainesh apparently lied to his family back in Modasa that they were going to Nathdwara for a darshan. But he brought his wife and kids to Udaipur instead. They did not come out of the room until the staff saw the girl. A case has been registered and we are investigating from all angles. The relatives are expected to reach Udaipur by late night,” the SP said.
