VADODARA: After two lawyers and some members of Hindu Jagran Manch entered the heritage Nyay Mandir building to clean it, the Baroda Bar Association (BBA) has now shown its concern for the maintenance of the building.
The president of the lawyers’ body Hasmukh Bhatt wrote a letter addressing it to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, chief minister Vijay Rupani, minister of state for home and law and justice Pradipsinh Jadeja and others on Thursday.
Bhatt, in his letter, has stated that the Nyay Mandir building was under the possession of the district court administration, but either due to lack of funding from the state government or some other reasons cleanliness is not being taken up inside the premises.
Bhatt also said that either the central government or the state government should take over the building so that the importance of the building be maintained. He also wrote that the structure built during the times of Maharaja Sayajirao III is the pride of people.
Meanwhile, the talking point at the district court in Diwalipura remained the FIR that was registered against the two lawyers – Neeraj Jain and Prakash Jha – for entering the building on February 16 for cleaning it. The WhatsApp groups also remained abuzz with chatter over the issue. “This is a heritage structure and there are penalties prescribed in the Heritage Conservation and Preservation Act for neglect or violation of the act,” said senior advocate Kishor Kini. He also said, “If we talk about Swachh Bharat mission then it is the district collector’s duty to make sure that this public building is kept clean.”
