Devotees throng roads for Shivji Ki Savari
Vadodara: Thousands attended the Shivji Ki Savari — Lord Shiva’s chariot procession — organised on the occasion of Maha Shivratri in the city on Friday. Along with the Maha Aarti and inauguration of the renovated pond, Sursagar wore a festive look on Friday. The procession and event witnessed unprecedented attendance of devotees.
The chariot ferried the Lord Shiva sitting on Nandi, Goddess Parvati and their sons Ganesha as well as Kartikeya, through the main thoroughfares of the city.

The procession commenced from the Ranmukteshwar Temple in Pratapnagar and culminated at Sursagar.
The procession had a series of floats including those of select government departments. Several men, women and children dressed as various gods and goddesses participated in the procession. Members of different ‘akhadas’ in the city displayed skills like malkhambh and rope malkhambh during the procession on floats allocated to them.
The event culminated with the inauguration of Sursagar by chief minister Vijay Rupani who also performed Maha Aarti of the Sarveshwar Mahadev idol located in the centre of the Sursagar pond. Union minister Amit Shah, however, could not attend the event.
Speaking to media persons on the side lines of the event Rupani said that he had prayed for a powerful and prosperous Gujarat and its people. He added that the third eye of Lord Shiva will burn all those who wishes ill for the country.
