Gujarat: Man arrested for raping, threatening homeopath

VADODARA: A homoeopathy student in Panchmahal district has accused a man of hiding his religious identity and marital status and raping her. The man had allegedly threatened to circulate her photographs in compromising situations to defame her.
The woman who studies at an institute in Vadodara had befriended the man who was introduced to her by a common friend. The man claimed that he had lost his parents and was unmarried.She got involved an affair with the man.
After she completed her studies, the man gifted her different mobile phones from time to time. The woman has claimed that one such mobile phone had some recorded conversations that revealed that the man was from a different religion.
When the complainant confronted the man with this information, he disclosed that he was not only from a different religion but was also married. Hearing this, the woman decided to end her relationship with the man. However, he threatened her to circulate obscene photographs and defame the woman and her family.
The woman’s family was looking to get her married, but the man continued to threaten her and called her to Ahmedabad. The woman left home without telling her parents earlier this month. The man allegedly raped the woman again in Ahmedabad after threatening her. When the woman’s parents called her on January 5, she informed them about the situation.
An offence was registered at the Halol police station regarding the incident. The accused was arrested and remanded to police custody for six day on Thursday.
