VADODARA: The detection of crime branch (DCB) on Wednesday sent a notice to Zubair Gopalani, a Muslim leader, for posting messages intended to spread enmity among communities. Another man Mohammed Usman Akhunjiwala too was sent a similar notice on Wednesday. The duo has been asked to appear before the crime branch and furnish reply within a day.
“We found that the duo had posted objectionable message on his twitter timeline asking for boycott of some doctors who had supported the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register for Citizens.
The messages accused the doctors of being communal,” said Jaydeepsinh Jadeja, DCP (crime). “Such posts can create rift among different religions,” Jadeja told TOI.
“We will take their statements and then decide on further course of action. There are some others too who had posted such provocative messages,” Jadeja said.
Gopalani, who is chairman of Minority Development and Protection Foundation, said that he had posted the matter on his Facebook ID that is also linked with his Twitter ID. “I realised the mistake and deleted the post from FB on Tuesday, but the tweet stayed. I subsequently deleted the tweet too,” he said.
The doctors concerned were also surprised to see their names being dragged in the CAA-NRC controversy.
“I have not been involved in any activity on this front,” said a doctor whose name figured in the list. He said that he had only one post mapping the states having violent protests on the issue. “Barring this, I have not commented on the issue. I even checked with some others on the list. They too claimed that they were not active on social media on this issue,” he said.
The cybercrime cell has been keeping an eye on social media and tracking the trouble mongers ever since protests against the CAA and NRC erupted across the country.
