Sanskrit should not be studied only to get a degree: Governor Anandiben Patel

Speaking on the occasion of the 37th convocation of Sampurnanand Sanskrit University, governor Anandiben Patel said the demerits of general education system in which inefficient persons are also succeeding in getting degrees, should not creep into Sanskrit education system.

VARANASI: Speaking on the occasion of the 37th convocation of Sampurnanand Sanskrit University, governor Anandiben Patel said the demerits of general education system in which inefficient persons are also succeeding in getting degrees, should not creep into Sanskrit education system.
The university’s 37th convocation which was held here on Thursday was attended by the UGC vice chairman, Prof Bhushan Patwardhan, who was the chief guest on the occasion.

While addressing the students of the varsity, the UP governor said, “I have no hesitation in saying that today’s education system is only about collecting degrees and even those, who are inefficient, are succeeding in getting degrees of higher education.
Asking Sanskrit scholars and students to not study Sanskrit only to collect a degree, “She said, Sanskrit is a symbol of purity and it is not just a language but is the study of the culture and civilization of India.”
“Sanskrit has helped in keeping the country integrated,” she added.
The governor also called upon the youths to spare time for social and said the young people have the capability of creating a better image of the country.
Earlier, after conferring degrees of D.Lit, Shastri and Acharya, the governor also distributed 57 medals to 32 meritorious students. She also inaugurated Acharya Gokulchandra Jain memorial communication room of Shraman Vidya faculty and recreational venue for non-teaching staff.
