Since the clashes between the Delhi Police and the students of Jamia Millia Islamia University and Aligarh Muslim University on December 15, several
Bollywood celebrities have come out to express their concern over the Citizenship Amendment Act and the National Register of Citizens. The act that gave rise to protests from across the country, got a boost with several big names joining in and standing in solidarity with the students and people.
However, a few celebs landed in trouble for their posts during the ongoing protests.
Disha PataniYesterday, actress Disha Patani posted a sultry photo online while posing in lingerie that showed off her curves and chiselled abs. But social media users soon began trolling the actress for being 'irresponsible' and sharing the picture amid the on-going protests in the country.
Hrithik RoshanAlthough Hrithik Roshan shared a heartfelt social media post that called for peace amidst the protests in the nation, the actor was trolled for getting his facts wrong. Saying he was deeply saddened by the unrest in the country, Hrithik called for peace and saluted “the world’s youngest
democracy."
It wasn’t long before a Twitter user pointed out that Tunisia is the world's youngest democracy, not India. The goof grabbed everyone’s attention and even went on to make headlines.
Farhan AkhtarFarhan Akhtar hit the streets to protest against the CAA as he believed the time to express outrage on social media alone was over.
The actor took to Twitter to announce that he would attend the protest on Thursday at August Kranti Maidan in Mumbai. He also shared an image that sought to explain the ramifications of the CAA and NRC. However, soon after Farhan’s post, many on Twitter pointed out a discrepancy in the map of India he had shared. Farhan tweeted again, saying that he did not endorse the map, which he had shared, and apologised for the oversight.
Alia BhattEarly this week, Alia Bhatt posted a picture of the Preamble to the Constitution of India, as a mark of solidarity towards nationwide students’ protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). "Learn from the students", she wrote with the picture. Soon, netizens trolled her for posting the original Preamble which did not include the words "secular" and "integrity". The Preamble to the Indian Consitution was amended during the 42nd Amendment when the description of India was changed to "sovereign socialist secular democratic republic."
Akshay KumarAkshay Kumar landed in a soup when he “mistakenly” liked a video that allegedly mocked the attack on the protest. A screenshot of the actor’s ‘Like’ on the post, angered netizens and fans who began sharing the picture and also slamming the actor for the same.
Akshay, however, was quick to issue a clarification about his stance on the issue and explained the reason for his ‘Like’ on the said post.
“Regarding the ‘like’ on the tweet of Jamia Milia students, it was by mistake. I was scrolling and accidentally it must have been pressed and when I realised I immediately unliked it as In no way do I support such acts,” Akshay tweeted.
