Deepika Padukone’s production venture ‘
Chhapaak’, directed by
Meghna Gulzar, has been earning rave reviews from fans and critics. However, the good buzz hasn’t helped the film as far as the box office number game goes. The film has only earned a little over Rs 26 crore since its release on January 10.
In a recent chat, director Meghna revealed that how the film is being received is just as they expected.
Crushing all doubt about the team looking for big box office numbers, Meghna also pointed out that her leading lady was coming from 300-crore films and said that if she (Deepika) was chasing numbers then she wouldn’t have done a film like this.
Deepika also added that as far as numbers go, ‘Chhapaak’ collections are similar to ‘Piku’. She also cut down notions of a 100-crore film being considered as a success. She said that 100-crore films need not always be a hit as the budget often exceeds it.
'Chhapaak' clashed at the box office with
Ajay Devgn's 'Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior'. While the period film has gone past the 125-crore mark, the Deepika starrer is expected to earn about Rs 35 crore by the end of week two.
