We got in touch with senior trade expert Taran Adarsh exclusively to know more about Varun's journey at the box office, what makes him a huge draw at the box office and his upcoming projects.
Here are some excerpts from the chat...
What are the strengths of Varun Dhawan that make him a bankable actor?
Whenever I see Varun and the kind of films he does, I feel he's a mix of Govinda and Salman Khan. He seems to have stepped into those shoes but it's also important to be the darling of the masses. If you need to survive in the industry then one has to cater to a pan India audience.
He has worked in films like 'October' as well but the thing that I like about Varun is that he is working really hard and he knows his priorities very well.
How has he grown at the box office?
From his debut in 'Student of the Year' to his latest release 'Street Dancer 3', Varun has stepped out from the shadows of his family's filmy background and carved a niche for himself by experimenting with his roles. Of course, we all know that he is
David Dhawan's son and his contribution to Hindi cinema has been immense but Varun has been honing his skills and trying out different genres as well. He has been doing diverse kinds of roles with different directors.
What's the secret behind Varun's success at the box office?
The success of a film is in the hands of the audience so there's secret behind how films work and fail at the box office and if you see Varun has a good success ratio. He is trying to be out there and give the audience what they want so acceptance or rejection seems to be secondary on his mind.
Will Varun and Sara's pair be accepted by the audience? Do you think Coolie No. 1 will manage to hit the bull's eye at the box office?
Varun and Sara are a fresh pair and their film 'Coolie No. 1' looks like a great entertainer. This time he is stepping into Govinda's shoes while a few years earlier in stepped into Salman's popular character with 'Judwaa 2'. If you look at the film then you will see that all odds are in its favour at the moment as David teams up again with Varun after 'Judwaa 2' and Varun-Sara's chemistry also looks quite interesting.
