Jagdeep was best known for his portrayal of ‘Soorma Bhopali’ in the iconic film ‘Sholay’. Fondly remembering Jagdeep, Dharmendra exclusively told ETimes, “I was shattered as soon as I got the news yesterday. I am at my farmhouse so there are network issues. Shockingly, we are losing people one after another. I am losing my co-artists and my loving people. Jagdeep was very close to me. He was a good friend and was really a great actor. He has worked with me in ‘Sholay’, ‘Pratigya’ and many other films. He used to make every single moment with him very lively.”

While Amitabh Bachchan had expressed grief in a heartfelt post on his blog, "Last night we lost another gem. Jagdeep, the actor of exceptional comedic repertoire, passed away. He had crafted a unique individual style of his own.. and I had the honour of working with him in several films.. the more prominent ones in the eyes of the audience being Sholay and Shahenshah. He had even requested me to do a small guest role in a film he was producing, which I did. A humble human... loved by millions. My duas and my prayers. One by one they all go away .. leaving the Industry bereft and deprived of their immense contribution.”

Jagdeep had marked his entry in Bollywood as a child artist with films like ‘Do Bigha Zamin’, ‘Munna’ and ‘Aar Paar’. He went on to essay the lead in ‘Bhabhi’, ‘Bindaya’ and ‘Barkha’. Jagdeep established himself as a comedian with ‘Brahmachari’ in 1968. The popular actor later later appeared in films like ‘China Gate’, ‘Kahin Pyaar Na Ho Jaaye’ and ‘Bombay to Goa’.
