NEW DELHI: Lok Sabha Speaker
Om Birla on Friday chided Union minister
Babul Supriyo for making certain objectionable remarks against Congress member
Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, saying it's wrong and no right has been given to the minister to speak like that with any member in the House.
Supriyo, minister of state for environment, made the remark while replying to a supplementary related to air pollution during
Question Hour.
The Speaker, however, immediately expunged the remarks from records. Birla also told parliamentary affairs minister
Pralhad Joshi to make Supriyo understand parliamentary proceedings. Congress members protested over the minister's remarks. Amid the protests, the minister said he was withdrawing the remarks.
Supriyo's remark came when Chowdhury, while referring to answer given by the minister, said it was a wishy-washy statement and just a statement of intent and nothing more than that.
