NEW DELHI: Even as Covid-19 cases continue to increase, India recorded 51,706 recoveries - the highest single-day recoveries so far. With this the overall recovery rate has improved to 67.19%.
The total active cases in the country is now nearing 6 lakh, which is less than a third of the total Covid-19 burden in the country. In the last 24 hours, 52,509 fresh cases were reported.
While number of deaths are also increasing with 857 more deaths reported on Tuesday taking the total to 39,795, the fatality rate – which is deaths over total number of infections - has dropped to 2.09% because of increasing share of recoveries even as new cases too are rising rapidly.

“With increasing number of Covid-19 patients recovering, there has been a 63.8% increase in recovered cases in the last 14 days, indicating that the Covid-19 response and management driven by the Centre’s “Test, Track, Treat” strategy is yielding the desired results,” the health ministry said.
The government is also fast ramping up Covid-19 testing. On Tuesday, more than 6 lakh tests were conducted for the second day. India is curently doing 15,568 tests per million population.
The government has said that it plans to ramp up daily testing to up to 10 lakh tests per day to ensure the positivity rate comes down to 10% and eventually to 5% in all states.
“The resolve of Union and state/UT governments to follow aggressive testing as the first important step in the early detection and treatment or home isolation of Covid-19 positive cases has resulted in India rapidly increasing the number of tests done per day,” the ministry said.
Curently, there are total 1366 labs for Covid-19 tests in the country. Of this, 920 labs are in the government sector, whereas 446 are private labs.
